Hafted Bone or Tooth Scrapers

“Kangaroo teeth were commonly hafted. A scraper was made on the west coast of Cape York by heating one of these teeth and then breaking it by gradual pressure; the sharp-edged stump was then bound and gummed on the tongue of a flat ironwood handle about 15cm long. Roth (1907) saw this tool used for sharpening spear tips and for cutting the groove for detachable barbs. The scraper was drawn toward the operator in use.” (McCarthy, F. D: Australian Aboriginal Stone Implements, Second Edition, 1976, p. 93 and photo of similar tool on page 90).
